Foster Application Guidelines

Code of Ethics

  1. To maintain the organization as non-profit.
  2. To conduct rescue work on a voluntary basis.
  3. To abide by written procedures in all aspects of rescue.
  4. To exhibit professional conduct in regards to shelter staff, general public, members of NEPR and other rescue organizations.
  5. To provide a loving and safe environment in the home for rescued Pekingese in foster care providing food, water and sanitary conditions and to meet or exceed standards defined by local health officials and animal control authorities.
  6. The animal will be kept on the premises of the foster home.
  7. The animal will not be left unsupervised off lead and will be kept in a fenced, secured yard.        
  8. To receive rescue Pekingese from shelters, strays and owner surrenders.
  9. Pekingese will be examined by a certified veterinarian, immunized, spayed or neutered, Heartworm tested and put on heartworm prevention.  Extra medical care must be approved as stated in the procedures manual in order to receive reimbursements.
  10. To ensure that unaltered Pekingese will be altered immediately and never used for purposes of breeding.
  11. To temperament test each animal in foster care and evaluate behavior remaining in correspondence with the President for suitable placement for each animal.
  12. To precisely follow procedures as mandated in the procedure manual regarding any aspect of rescue.
  13. To hold NEPR harmless of responsibility or liability for any rescued dog’s health, behavior and / or damage to persons or property.
  14. Dogs taken into the NEPR rescue program are in the custody of NEPR and will remain in custody unless proper procedures are followed in adoption of the animal by the foster home.  Failure to comply will result in legal action and theft charges to the fullest extent of the law.          
  15. The animal will remain the property of rescue.  The animal will be surrendered to an officer of rescue or the president of the rescue immediately upon request.
  16. The foster home will not be compensated for expenses incurred in the normal daily routine care of the animal.  Expenditures incurred by the foster family other than emergency care and routine vetting require prior approval.
  17. The animal is to be adopted to its permanent home only under the supervision of rescue to a home pre-approved by NEPR.
  18. All donations connected with the adoption of the animal will be sent directly to the assigned person as instructed in the procedures.
