Fostering
a dog is rewarding
To determine if you'd like to foster a dog for Northeast Pekingese Rescue, please read our basic policies and requirements
listed below. Fostering a dog gives a dog a second chance to find a safe,
loving home. If you fulfill these basic requirements and would like to apply
to foster a dog, please contact us by email
, or complete a Foster
Application Form.

Basic Requirements for fostering a dog
|
-
You
will need to provide food, dishes, bedding, toys, leashes and harnesses and of course...love.
-
If you do not own your home,
you need your landlord's written permission to have a foster dog in your
home. You also need written permission from roommates.
-
We prefer
your own dogs to be neutered/spayed and friendly
with other dogs
-
We do look for short-term fostering in rare
occasions, but most often we're looking for longer term foster care.
Pekingese on the whole do not do well in an unstable environment, so we
prefer not to move them into different foster homes. The length of
time can vary from a couple of weeks to a couple of months.
-
The Foster homes will not need to
worry about screening for forever homes. Foster homes are required to
provide the rescue with details on the dogs temperament so we can place them
in the correct home.
-
Some of the dogs need some work on basic training. One of NEPR's Board Members is a certified trainer who can provide guidance in that area.
If training is provided by the foster home we require positive
reinforcement training methods.

Required
procedures
Homechecks and references are required for all applicants . Once you are on our roster, we would contact you when we have a Peke that needs a foster home or you can volunteer to foster a dog who is posted on our group. If you are able to foster that dog, we will make arrangements to get the dog to you. If you are unable to take that particular Peke as a foster, that is fine - you can say "no". Fosters homes accept foster dogs at their discretion. |
-
Routine vet care such as spay/neuter, vaccinations, heartworm check and preventive, dental etc are paid for by Northeast Pekingese Rescue.
Other surgeries or treatments would need to be approved in advance by the Board of Directors.
The foster homes are responsible for providing regular updates to the Board
on temperament and behavior to help us find the best home for him/her.
-
When we have one that seems suitable for your foster Peke, we would encourage you to talk to the applicant and make sure that the home seems right for the dog.
-
The Dog can only be adopted out by
the rescue or with the approval of the rescue. Anyone interested in adopting
your foster will need to complete a application from our web site.
-
The Foster home MUST be willing to
keep in contact with the rescue and provide updates when requested
-
Pekingese in our Foster program are inside dogs. You MUST be willing to keep
your foster as a inside dog and work with him if needed.
-
We are available to help the foster
homes with any problems.
