Pekingese Standard

| Before we show you the pekingese standard, we would like to explain why none of the pekes on
our website will look like the standard.
|
- Some of the pekes we rescue were purchased from a pet store or puppy mill where quantity,
not quality, are emphasized. Click here to educate yourself
about pet stores and puppy mills.
- Few of the pekes we rescue have the long, beautiful coats that are standard. This is sometimes
because they were shaved down to successfully treat fleas or skin disorders. With
time and proper grooming, their coats can be as long as you want them to be. Some
owners choose to keep their coats short simply to lessen the maintenance burden.
- Some of the pekingese we rescue are missing an eye or limb or are blind or deaf. Their injuries
are often caused by abuse and then their owners adandon them. Even though these pekes
are less than whole, they are wonderful, loving, and loyal companions whose handicaps
do not interfere with living life like the lions they resemble.
- Some of the pekingese we rescue are mixed breeds. We do not turn
away calls that we get for mixed breed pekes if we have room in our foster
homes (and most of the time even when we don't have room:)

Even though our rescue pekes do not look like the standard, they are all wonderful animals.
Each of our pekes spend time in foster homes were the foster peke-parents are able to get to
know the dog and their temperament. This gives us the advantage of being able to suggest the right
companion for adoption so you don't get stuck in an unpleasant situation. All of the pekes we
rescue are given physicals, are neutered/spayed, and given all of their vaccinations before they
are adopted.
